The Project
Project Objectives
The project objectives are summarized as follows:
- Development of an electronic platform that will aggregate all the basic online services of the medical tourism value chain, with the aim of providing integrated “one-stop” services.
-Strengthening the competitiveness of tourism businesses by promoting medical tourism in the Region of Central Macedonia.
-Enhancing cooperation and networking among research organizations, educational institutions, and businesses within the framework of the Region of Central Macedonia’s smart specialization strategy.
-Supporting medical tourism policy-making bodies in the Region of Central Macedonia in decision-making through data analysis and visualization.
Results
The expected benefits from the investment will be particularly significant both for the businesses involved and for the research community, the local economy of the Region of Central Macedonia, as well as the national economy in general.
More specifically, the expected benefits are:
-Creation of a new, innovative, value-added product with competitive cost in the tourism sector, in which Greece plays an important role.
-Promotion of medical tourism in the Region of Central Macedonia through modern technologies. -Creation of a strong brand name for businesses, aiming to continue innovation and establish themselves in both the domestic and international markets.
-Creation of new specialized jobs.
-Production of new knowledge and creation of a strong foundation for the development of new research in the use of new technologies in tourism.
-Promotion of research and innovation in investments and increase of productivity among research and innovation organizations in priority areas of the smart specialization strategy.
-Development of stable cooperation between businesses and research organizations, with prospects extending beyond the timeframe of the specific project.
-Differentiation of the production model at regional level, adoption of innovation and extroversion practices by businesses. There are no similar platforms internationally or nationally, especially for a digital health coordinator. Therefore, the scientific excellence of the proposed project, in international terms, is significant. The fact that it is being implemented in partnership with public research organizations of recognized value and prestige strengthens its characteristics of excellence. The mature implementation of the project, the development of an ambitious and realistic business model, and the securing of business sustainability will bring benefits to the domestic economy that will be measurable and significant for the sector and the local economy.
Work Packages / Deliverables
The project will be implemented through six (6) distinct Work Packages (WPs), which will evolve in a business sequence and each of them will include the corresponding deliverables and schedule. The project duration will be 18 months (M1–M18). The work packages and corresponding deliverables are:
WP1: Research field analysis and definition of requirements and specifications (M1–M3)
